Today, during a course about safety, the trainer made me notice the following while speaking of psychological aspects.
The Swiss are quite famous for being polite and nice: they always say “Hello”, they always say “Bye bye”…
However, their kindness makes they speak quite indefinitely: normally no strong statement, but often everything dressed with “eigentlich” (= actually).
And if you think, when you say “actually”, you are supposed to add also some…”but”:
…The weather is actually good, but…
…The dinner at the restaurant was actually great, but…
And here comes the sport where a lot of Swiss actually excel: criticising and judging. The adverb “actually” is their best tool for this particular competition!
