We stand with Ukraine

The attack of Russia against Ukraine does not stop and every day the war becomes dramatically harder.

In Switzerland a lot of spontaneous organisations are collecting aid material to help the people on the battlefield and the escaping refugees.

Today I saw these flags at the Renault/Dacia garage in my village. The now well known colours seemed to mix with the brilliant tones of the finished Carnival…

I think the colours are not a random coincidence: they clearly resemble the Ukrainian flag and the white probably is a cry for peace!

“My” match of the century!

All European football fans, including me, are excited for the soccer European Championship “Euro 2020” which is played in these weeks.

Some days ago the match I had been waiting for for 20 years finally happened: Italy-Switzerland… and Italy won 3-0!

I come from Milano (Italy) and I have been living for 20 years in Switzerland, Canton Argovia. As probably many other emigrants, I feel well in the Confederation, but when Italy shall be supported I have no doubt about my homeland and the national Italian pride is at its top. Equipped with the tricolour flag at the window, Gattuso’s shirt from 2006 and a lot of enthusiasm for our soccer heroes, I watched a great show on the pitch.

By now the passport can be both Italian and Swiss, but my “heart” remains white, red and green!

Geography “on the road” in Zurich

When in Switzerland, you should know how many cantons constitute the Confederation (26!) and which are their flags (Because flags are very important in Switzerland!)
You can check, study and try to memorise these details on books or in Internet.

Or, in a better way, just walk around in Zurich on a warm sunny Saturday, precisely in Rennweg, a nice street next to the famous Bahnhofstrasse.
You will find a great “exhibition” of the flags of the Swiss cantons, which are permanently and proudly flying in the wind there…

On these photos, some anticipations.
On the 1st: Solothurn, Graubünden, Ticino, Neuchatel, Schwyz, Schaffhausen, Zug.
On the 2nd: Geneva, Thurgau, Basel-Stadt.
