Switzerland becomes “normal” with the snow

Photo from: blick.ch

This week Switzerland has been crossed by snow storms for days. Some mountain cantons have many villages isolated…

And even Zurich city is blocked: trams and public transportation are stopped.

The snow, with its silent white cover, makes everything the same. Even Switzerland, the organised country, where everything is planned, is shut down by the snow like every other “normal” country…

Masked trams in Zurich

Photos taken from 20min.ch

The trams in Zurich wear protective masks, protective masks with the motto “with good example forward”!
This is a wonderful signal and a good message to restart after the lockdown due to the Covid-19.
Public transportation shall be used by the passengers using protective masks, which is the only way to reduce the danger of contageon, being impossible to keep the distances on a bus, a tram or a train!

Great example from Zurich city! Especially because surprisingly the Swiss ministers and the Federal Office of Public Health are continuing to sermonise on the importance of keeping distances and washing hands, neglecting the decisive importance of protective masks!

Maybe big cities like Zurich have more acquaintance with risk mitigation measures than the lovely federal countrysides?

Geography “on the road” in Zurich

When in Switzerland, you should know how many cantons constitute the Confederation (26!) and which are their flags (Because flags are very important in Switzerland!)
You can check, study and try to memorise these details on books or in Internet.

Or, in a better way, just walk around in Zurich on a warm sunny Saturday, precisely in Rennweg, a nice street next to the famous Bahnhofstrasse.
You will find a great “exhibition” of the flags of the Swiss cantons, which are permanently and proudly flying in the wind there…

On these photos, some anticipations.
On the 1st: Solothurn, Graubünden, Ticino, Neuchatel, Schwyz, Schaffhausen, Zug.
On the 2nd: Geneva, Thurgau, Basel-Stadt.

(S)watch… service

Last Saturday, while in Zurich, I entered a Swatch shop to get a new battery for my Swatch.
The nice young woman at the counter took a giant screw driver, a kind of portable knife and started the “open heart” operation to my (S)watch.
Everything was successfully completed: battery changed in just few seconds.

So fast that I had some difficulties in getting my wallet from my pocket.
In such delay I was trying to extract the credit card when the young woman assured me with a smile and proudly stated: “The new battery and its substitution are free: it is a service of Swatch!”

Amazing! Great service from the famous Swiss innovative watch company!
In these days the glorious historical plastic watch is probably suffering the competition with the newest interactive watches…
But the Swatch service is for sure excellent and clearly worthy of one of the best real Swiss watch!

The love lock bridge

Last Saturday I was walking in Zurich coming from the Niederdorf towards the station and Bahnhofstrasse, when I passed on the Mühlesteg to cross the river Limmat.
This narrow pedestrian bridge is unique in Zurich!
A lot of padlocks of the most different shapes are fixed on the guard railings of this fragile walkway. Each padlock is engraved with the names of modern and unknown Romeos and Juliets…
It should be absolutely romantic to lock your love on the river, watching the lake, under the sky, fired by the sunset light!

Competition in Switzerland

Last Saturday I was in Zurich with my family.
Zurich: the top of Swiss economy, where the competition is at its maximum in any field and at any level!
Any level…

Look at the inhabitants of Zurich lake fighting for some bread crumbs!
One of the most severe rivalry I have ever seen!
And these guys do not even have hands and feet, but just wings and duck legs!

This is life, this is competition in Switzerland.
